The Everidge Funeral Home History
In 1986, Emmitt and Larry Everidge purchased one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Letcher County. Since that time their family and staff have had the honor of providing funeral service to families of the many fine communities in our county and surrounding area. The Everidge Funeral Home has always stood by the philosophy that professionalism, sincerity, dignity and caring are the cornerstone for maintaining a successful funeral business. This particular funeral home began in 1936 and different owners since that time have been men of good solid character, with compassion and drive to service others. That tradition is in no danger of changing. Recently, Larry and Emmitt felt the time was right to pass the business on to another man, Jerome Hatton, whose values, character and morals are representative of Everidge tradition and what the families of the community both expect and deserve.
Jerome is a Kentucky-Indiana licensed funeral director and embalmer. He is the son of Larry Hatton and Judy Howard Greene. His grandparents are the late Bill and Cindy Howard, and James and Norma Jean Trent. Jerome grew up in Whitco and is a 1995 graduate of Whitesburg High School, where he played on the 1994-1995 regional championship football team. It has always been his dream to be able to come back home to Letcher County. When the folks at Everidge Funeral Home decided he was the caliber of person that would take the same good care of the people they serve, his dream become real.
Jerome looks forward to seeing old friends and making new ones and intends to carry on the business of his family helping your family at a time of need. He will no doubt make his mark on the funeral home as did those before him, which adds to the personality of the business and assures that it will continue to be a viable, successful funeral home for years to come.
The current staff, as well as Larry Everidge, will always be available to help anyone in their time of need or to answer any questions you may have. Larry is still a citizen of our county and will be at the funeral home on a routine basis.
Kentucky Colonel Certificate
We were presented a Kentucky Colonel Certificate commissioned by Governor Steve Brashears and recommended by James Scott and Jeanette Sparks, on behalf of James and Dinah Brashears Riddle family, for their contributing support to the annual Riddle Family Candle Lighting Memorial Service. The reunion is held in London, Ky. The certicate was presented by Jeanette Sparks to Larry Everidge and Jerome Hatton at the Everidge Funeral Home in Whitesburg, KY.

| Ferdinand was a funeral director and embalmer for over sixty years. Mayor of Whitesburg for twenty-six years. one of the founding members for Mountain Comprehensive Corporation. He was a volunteer fireman. a member of Neon and Whitesburg Lion's Clubs, a member and past master of the Whitesburg Masonic Lodge, a member of the Eastern Star, veteran of World War ll. He was a member of the VFW, Fraternal Order of Police and the American Legion, Advisory Board of the Hazard Medical Center, and served on the Advisory Council for the Homeless. | Viola was an elementary school teacher for twenty-six years. A social worker for the Kentucky Public Assistnace Office. She was a sunday school teacher for many years at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. She was active in service groups such as the Pine Mt. Chapter of the DAR, Whitesburg Lion's Club, Whitesburg Woman's Club, Eastern Star Chapter #54, and serverd on committees for Kentucky River Area Development District in Hazard. |
Kevin was the son of Larry and Marcy L Everidge. He attendented Whitesburg High School. He was a member of the BETA Club, a recipient of the Hugh O'Brien Award, and a member of the Whitesburg High School Band for five years. |
